I appreciate you finding the sources of these lyrics - I've always loved this song. I hope I'm not coming across as defensive, as it's possible I misinterpreted the intention of your post. Regardless, this is a marvelous work of poetry.

But is accusing the Flecktones of "plagiarism" really appropriate? Did they ever claim these to be original lyrics? I had always kind of assumed they were translated from the Gita. The song is a recitation of portions of this myth, set to music. It's poetry. They mainstreamed parts of a mythical/spiritual/moral text that is unappreciated by those outside Hinduism.

Here's a critique I received by a poetry expertI shared this with the Poet Laureate of Illinois-based group I belong to, and her comment was, "This is one of the most creative presentations of poetry I've ever heard. That the basis is of Hindu myth and spoken against very appropriate background music is exceptional and unique. In 30 years, I've never heard anything this beautifully powerful."

I found the translation the OP referenced on Google Books. It's a wonderful read to begin with. More fascinating is if you search for the lyrics, this text puts them into context and offers a more spiritual interpretation.

This is a great web site. Good sparkling user interface and very informative blogs. I will be coming back in a bit, thanks for the great article. I have found it enormously useful.
